ABOUT

RUTH...

Ruth works as a freelance choreographer and dance teacher and is based between London and Shropshire. She graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with a degree in Musical Theatre. 

​

Ruth's current project is with University of Chichester Conservatoire, BA (Hons) Musical Theatre students, choreographing for their production of American Idiot. The performance will take place in April 2024 in The New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth. This will be Ruth's second production with the Conservatoire, having choreographed Urinetown in January 2023.

Alongside freelance work, Ruth is passionate about creating new choreography and blending her love for film with dance. Ruth recently premiered her dance film 'Home', which was filmed using a drone in the Shropshire Hills. The piece explores themes of identity and ‘What home really means to you?’.

​

In October 2022, Ruth was honoured to have been asked to choreograph for a music video by Mini Productions - 'Dancing in Flames' by Dylan Holloway. The piece highlights the 46 million people in the world living with bipolar disorder and uses this platform to celebrate this. Amidst the darkness, fear and daily struggle of those living with bipolar, everyone of those people has a 'spark of genius'.

From January 2019 - August 2019 Ruth worked as Assistant Choreographer  on Birmingham Hippodromes production of West Side Story with a talented cast of 44 young performers aged from 14 - 25. 

​

Ruth also worked as Assistant Choreographer to Darragh O'Leary for a performance of Dancing Drummers at the NFL, Twickenham. 

​

Ruth has previously worked on ITV, This Morning with Sharon and Andy Price on achieving their Dirty Dancing lift! After an unsuccessful first attempt hit the headlines, Ruth was excited to help them achieve the lift live on TV.

​

Ruth worked as choreographer for Upstage skills course in Alicante, Spain as part of their performing arts skills course for 12 - 18 year olds in connection with the NYMT.

 

Ruth also works at Alleyn's School as an assistant to the head of the Dance department, running classes with students age 11 - 18. 

​

In January 2016, Ruth was asked to choreograph for Queens Gate Schools 125th Anniversary performance of the hit musical Merrily We Roll Along at the RADA theatre, London. Ruth recently returned to Queens Gate School in March 2017 where she was choreographer and fight director for their production of Macbeth. 

​

Ruth has worked with the NYMT as Choreographer for their October Half Term Workshops and Assistant Choreographer on their production of The Ragged Child.

​

As part of a Birmingham based project, Making Choreographers, Ruth was selected to choreograph a curtain raiser for Matthew Bournes Cinderella at the Birmingham Hippodrome. 

​

Ruth continues to work as a performer as part of Rooftop Trio group gigging in and around London.

​

Other Choreographic credits include; Diana Griffiths School Of Dance Summer School LeaderWolverhampton Grammar School Great Expectations, Greek Dance Choreography competition WinnersPQA, StageCoach, Young Creatives, Youth Dance England and Shrewsbury Sixth Form College.
